Ron Sholar of Stillwater, OK has been appointed Executive Director of the Great Plains Canola Association. He replaces Kenlon Johannes who had served in the position since 2007.

Sholar comes to GPCA after having served for 3 decades as a Professor of Agronomy and Extension Agronomist at Oklahoma State University. He had statewide responsibility for extension programs in peanuts and soybeans and for coordinating interdisciplinary programs for oilseed crops. During his career, he developed strong working relationships with different segments of the oilseed industry.

As GPCA Executive Director, Sholar will be engaged with all sectors of the canola industry in pursuing the shared goals of expanding canola acreage in the Great Plains region and increasing canola consumption both nationally and internationally.

Sholar earned a bachelor’s degree from the University of Tennessee at Martin and master’s and doctoral degrees from Oklahoma State University.

He and his wife Linda, a retired public school teacher, reside in Stillwater.
